Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a specialist cleaning job to the exterior of the BBC headquarters in Central London.

Broadcasting House is located in Portland Place and Langham Place. The first radio broadcast from the building was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience.

A team from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd cleaned the Portland stone panels of the exterior of the BBC headquarters using the Doff System – approved by Stonehealth Ltd and Heritage (UK). The Doff system is steam based and its very gentle to the surface unlike regular jet-wash. Access to the façade was gained using a cradle.

A team from PTSG BAS attended the BBC headquarters in January this year in an emergency call-out following reports that the famous sculpture of Prospero had been vandalised. Again, technicians from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd used the Doff System to remove the graffiti, achieving temperatures of up to 150 degrees at the nozzle end.
