Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to deliver lightning protection at the new Swansea Arena, currently under construction as part of a major £135m transformation scheme which includes new parkland, homes, commercial units and almost 1,000 parking spaces.

Work on the arena site by main contractor Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd has continued during the recent period of restrictions, in line with Government and industry guidance which allows construction to continue. All parts of the scheme are due to open in the second half of next year.

All structures of a certain height should have a lightning protection system to provide invaluable protection from electrical storms. Cloud-to-ground lightning bolts are a common phenomenon—about 100 strike Earth’s surface every single second. Each bolt can contain up to one billion volts of electricity.

PTSG installs, inspects, services and maintains lightning protection systems for customers in all industry sectors. Its engineers also specialise in surge protection systems, which protect electrical equipment and circuits from electrical surges, which can result in thousands of pounds of damage in unprotected buildings.
