PTSG makes Plymouth student building fire-safe

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is delivering specialist fire solutions to a popular and well-known student accommodation building in Plymouth – the Mary Newman building.

Mary Newman is one of the notable figures in Plymouth’s history. She married Francis Drake at St Budeaux church on 4th July 1569. St Budeaux was a Devon country parish adjoining the eastern bank of the Tamar estuary, four miles north-west of the town of Plymouth. Today it is a suburb in the City of Plymouth. Drake was knighted in 1581 after returning from his epic circumnavigation of the globe.

The Mary Newman building was designed as a ship ‘on shore’ for the trainee ratings when the School of Navigation was on the campus site. In the 1970s it became part of Plymouth Polytechnic. The building, with its central core and alternative means of escape, lent itself to redevelopment as student accommodation. The scheme includes on every floor two flats and a large shared kitchen / dining / living room, which have fantastic views out towards the Hoe. It has proved very popular with students.

Engineers from PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd are contracted to replace a multi-alarm system with a state-of-the-art Gent fire detection system. Gent is well known throughout the industry for its high-quality, innovative products.

PTSG delivers specialist services at Exeter redevelopment

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been contracted to provide a wide range of specialist fire and security solutions at the brand new bus station in Exeter, currently in development.

Work on Exeter’s new leisure centre and bus station started in January 2019 and will take at least two years to complete, with the opening expected in Spring 2021. The new leisure complex, called St Sidwell’s Point, will be the first in the country built to the highly energy efficient Passivhaus standard. Passivhaus is an international energy performance standard. The core focus of Passivhaus is to dramatically reduce the requirement for space heating and cooling, whilst also creating excellent indoor comfort levels.

The new Exeter Bus Station will include covered waiting and boarding areas and high quality facilities, and will replace the current station opened in 1964. Engineers from PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd are installing a fire alarm, disabled refuge plus disabled toilet alarm, induction loops, CCTV, intruder alarms and access control.

PTSG has 29 office locations throughout the UK. Its Fire Solutions division has a large presence in the south-west and undertakes many projects in the region. Engineers from the Exeter office of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd delivered a fire alarm, CCTV, intruder alarm and access control at the hospital. The Group’s Fire Solutions division is the fastest-growing of its four specialist business divisions. It now delivers a full range of fire and security solutions for clients in all industry sectors, giving peace of mind to building managers and users.

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is installing a range of fire and security solutions at a Student accommodation facility for Unite, located at the brand new First Way Campus in the heart of the Wembley Park regeneration area.

Unite common areas are situated on the ground floor.
