PTSG to perform electrical health tests at hospitals in the south

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has been contracted to provide vital electrical testing services at two different NHS facilities.

Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd. will undertake one-year contracts at Hitchingbrooke Hospital and Springfield University Hospital. The former is a district general hospital near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The latter is a psychiatric hospital in Tooting, South London. Originally opened as the Surrey County Pauper Lunatic Asylum in 1840, it is now a scaled-down facility providing mental health care for around 300 inpatients.

PTSG has 29 regional offices and provides fixed wire and portable appliance testing for a wide range of clients throughout the UK. The Group has a long and successful history of working for customers in the health sector and has provided electrical testing services for other hospitals in the south including St. Mary’s Hospital in Charring Cross and Hammersmith Hospital. In the midlands, it has worked at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

In 2016, the Group’s access and safety engineers were approached by a client from slightly further afield. The Gibraltar Health Authority needed an innovative access system for St. Bernard’s Hospital on Spain’s south coast. While based 2,000 miles away, PTSG’s reputation resulted in a successful contract to install a range of equipment to enable operatives to access solar panels installed on the roof of the hospital’s plant room.

PTSG shortlisted twice in PFM Partnership Awards

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) is proud to be a finalist in two categories of the PFM Partnership Awards 2019.

The Group is shortlisted in the award for Partners in Expert Services – for the close working relationship between PTSG Access Safety Ltd. (fall arrest) and Standard Life.

PTSG has carried out a range of fall arrest testing services for Standard Life on and within dozens of buildings throughout the UK since 2008. The teams have closely worked together, adopting many of the guiding principles of BS11000 (now ISO44001) and identified the key factors that help them to develop and manage a truly collaborative business relationship within their respective, and between both, organisations.

PTSG’s recent work with Blackpool Council in undertaking vital repairs to Blackpool Tower gained the attention of the judges, resulting in a place on the shortlist for the Partners in Renovation award. PTSG’s Edinburgh-based height specialists won the contract through an open tender process at the end of 2018, with the work commencing in January 2019.

During the three-month package of repairs, PTSG’s team towards the end of phase one was on site 24-hours a day for a full week to ensure crucial deadlines were being met with and that the works were carried out un-interrupted due to the significance of the work to the overall structural integrity of the tower. The Council, Merlin (which operates the tower on behalf of the council) and ARUP have shown great confidence in PTSG’s management and engineers alike, putting their full trust in them for future maintenance works.

This year’s awards will be presented at The Brewery in London on the evening of 6 November 2019.

PTSG towers above competition to win prestigious contract in Blackpool

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has completed the first phase of a major project for Blackpool Council, providing a series of vital repairs to Blackpool Tower.

Following an open tender process towards the end of 2018, specialists from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd (from the Group’s Edinburgh office) began working on the contract in January 2019. There were two main elements to the repair work. The first was the replacement and renewal of structural steelwork at the base of the tower.

There were two main considerations that PTSG had to keep in mind at all times:

  1. All work was safety-critical due to the age of the tower.
  2. As Blackpool Tower is a Grade I listed building, all work performed had to be approved by the heritage committee prior to being undertaken. Any parts of the structure that were renewed had to be replaced with like-for-like materials.

This was the first time some of the tower’s steel had been renewed or replaced, and crucial sections had corroded over its 125-year life span. Towards the end of Phase I, PTSG’s team was on site 24-hours a day for a full week to ensure crucial deadlines were being met and that the works were carried out uninterrupted, due to the significance to the overall structural integrity of the tower.

PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd is now in the early stages of Phase II of the contract with Blackpool Council, which is to provide ongoing maintenance work for up to four years, with the contract being renewed after each one-year period.

Our Bundled Services

I am Andrew Dack, Group Sales Director for PTSG.

PTSG, through its bundled services, offers a genuine multi-disciplinary capability to clients. This often provides them with the complete specialist services solution, with the following benefits:

  • one single point of contact for all services;
  • a far more focused approach to the servicing of their assets, keeping their building(s) in first-class operational order;
  • associated cost savings; and
  • by offering a bundled service we are able to ensure compliance on all services provided by PTSG.

During May 2019, I am pleased to report a number of bundled service contracts.

  • Arcus FM – one of the UK’s leading facilities management organisations, Arcus FM has awarded PTSG a contract to provide lightning protection and fall arrest services at a number of distribution centres.
  • Vinci Construction – LocatED. VINCI Construction UK is a specialist civil engineering, construction and facilities management company. PTSG has been contracted to provide all fixed wire testing work for the government’s ‘LocatED’ pilot scheme, for which Vinci is the main contractor. This scheme will see the government’s education property company shortlisting school sites with surplus land that can be sold off to raise money for new construction.
  • Engie – Kuehne Nagel UK. Engie is the main contractor on a project for Kuehne Nagel, a global transportation partner for air, sea and road freight solutions. PTSG has been appointed to provide portable appliance testing at 18 of the client’s UK sites.

I am supported in the Group Sales team by Shaun Caddick, who works with some of PTSG’s biggest existing clients. His focus is on introducing multi-disciplinary service packages to them, finding ways of offering them more both in terms of volume and type of service.

Jason King is our Business Development and Tender Director. Jason is involved with the sale of Group services across a range of channels.

PTSG specialist stars in TV commercial

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) boasts a staff body of 1,200. With so many specialists from a wide range of fields, the talents within the Group are many and varied; Eleanor Whitfield is a perfect example.

From Monday to Friday, Eleanor is a much-valued member of the lightning protection renewals team, where she works as an administrator. She is known for her attention for detail and is protective over her up-to-date database spreadsheet! However, away from the job where 25-year-old Eleanor has worked for almost five years, she is forging a different and very exciting career.

Since the age of 13, Eleanor has been training to become a highly accomplished martial artist. In October 2011 she became a 2nd Dan Black Belt – a combination of kickboxing, Taekwondo, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu, karate and weapons. She began assisting in teaching martial arts at the age of 15 and left her studies in the sixth form in order to pursue a career in this field.

Her skills, athleticism and dedication to her discipline won the attention of casting agents, leading to her being hired as the stunt double of the leading female character in the latest in the series of Vanquis TV commercials, which was shot in North Africa.

Talking about the experience, Eleanor said: “I had such an amazing experience working in Morocco recently as a stunt double for the Vanquis commercial. I have cross-trained in martial arts for over 12 years and would love to do more work in the industry such as screen fighting, combat weapons, acrobatics etc. If anyone knows of any castings, please get in touch!”

PTSG specialist completes Mount Snowden fund-raiser

An electrical services specialist from Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has completed the arduous walk up Mount Snowden to raise money for Two Rivers Special School in Tamworth.

Tim Bagshaw and his wife took up the challenge to give something back to the school which has given such superb support to their daughter, Ruby. In achieving their aim of walking up and down Wales’ tallest peak in a day (6thApril), they more than doubled their target of £200, raising £450 for the school.

Mount Snowden stands 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) above sea level and is the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands. It is also the busiest mountain in the UK, with 582,000 people visiting annually. The summit can be reached by a number of paths, as well as by the Snowdon Maintain railway.

The ascent was a personal triumph for Tim Bagshaw and his family. PTSG’s team members have undertaken a number of other money-raising challenges this year, including the Mallorca 312 – a challenging cycle ride around the mountains of the island; and the Mallory 100 Plop Enduro – another endurance race, this time on a Honda C90. A team of PTSG’s electrical estimators has also signed up to participate in the London to Brighton Off-Road Bike Ride, which will take place in September.

PTSG helps Churchill Foundation to ‘build a difference’

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has entered into a partnership with Churchill Retirement Living (Midlands) in support of its charity, the Churchill Foundation.

Churchill Retirement Living is well known for its charity work and in 2015, the Churchill Foundation was set up to enable the company to focus on supporting local communities as well as national charities. The three core areas are:

• The relief of disease, sickness and human suffering
• The promotion of health amongst the elderly
• The support and well-being of the young

Business partners who join the charity scheme donate 0.5% of invoices for work delivered for Churchill Retirement Living to the foundation. Since registration with the Charity Commission, the Churchill Foundation has raised over £1,000,000.

PTSG is a keen supporter of charitable causes and as the Group and its workforce continue to grow, money is raised in an increasingly diverse number of ways. Recently, teams from around the four business divisions have taken part in or signed up for ultra-endurance events. These include the Mallorca 312 – a 312-kilometre cycle event around the island’s mountains; and the London to Brighton Off-Road Bike Ride – an exhilarating 75-mile route from London to Brighton’s seafront.
