Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is in the process of renewing its contract to provide services throughout 2020 with long-established client Big Yellow (and Armadillo).
The Group’s Fire Solutions division has held a contract with Big Yellow since 2011, providing vital maintenance services for the dry risers installed at its stores.

Since administration, the locations of new or reopened TJ Hughes stores include: Clydebank, Dundee, East Kilbride, Birkenhead, Durham, Middlesborough, Oldham, Sheffield, Coventry and Stretford.

The main article in the latest issue BFM (Building & Facilities Management) magazine reported on the updated 2019 edition of Building Regulations ADB (Approved Document B), which took place on 30th August. Considerable progress has been made on improving residential safety, particularly within high-rise buildings, since the Grenfell Tower fire.
Approved Document B addresses fire safety precautions which must be adhered to, to ensure the safety of occupants, firefighters and those close to a building in the event of a fire.
The building regulations already require residential buildings over three storeys high to be fitted with smoke control systems, which protect escape routes and keep them free from smoke. Therefore, any move to supplement this protection with other kinds of safety solutions must be welcomed.
What the report emphasises – and Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) backs wholeheartedly – is the fact that each fire safety system is only as good as its maintenance regime. The performance of even the best systems can be fatally compromised by lack of correct maintenance. That’s why PTSG places great importance on maintenance for its 20,000 customers, with many benefitting from annual contracts to ensure their assets are protected at all times.
PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd is the fastest-growing of the Group’s four business divisions. Half of its 29 UK centres of operation are dedicated to the design, installation, testing and maintenance of fire solutions. This not only includes dry and wet risers, sprinkler systems and hydrants but also security systems (CCTV, access control, intruder alarm and door entry systems), public address/voice alarm systems (PA/VA) and all-important service support and maintenance packages – including planned and preventative maintenance, compliance and asset management, fire risk assessment and fire training.
Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has secured a new order to deliver a number of fire solutions in a new building at the University of Cambridge.
In a contract with Bouygues UK, engineers from PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd will install commercial sprinklers and dry risers to a new state-of-the-art physics laboratory on West Cambridge campus, off Madingley Road. The multi-million-pound project will strengthen the University of Cambridge’s position as a leading provider of research and learning in the field of physics.
Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Cambridge alumni, faculty members and researchers have won 11 Fields Medals and seven Turing Awards. Perhaps the most famous of all its scientists is Sir Isaac Newton, who conducted many of his experiments in the grounds of Trinity College.
PTSG has a large education portfolio and has installed fire solutions, lightning protection systems and delivered a number of other specialist services for universities throughout the UK. It is hoped that this latest contract at the University of Cambridge will mark the start of a long and successful working relationship between PTSG and Bouygues UK.

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been appointed to install a sprinkler system at a new residential development for the University of Leicester.
Plans for the new Freemen’s Common Student Village, which fronts Welford Road in Leicester, were approved by the City Council’s Planning Committee to create a welcoming new neighbourhood for students to live, study and socialise.
The scheme consists of seven residential student accommodation blocks for around 1,200 students, a 550-space multi-storey car park and other ancillary buildings. Engineers from PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd are due to start on site early in December, with the majority of works starting in the first quarter of 2020. The main contractor is Imtech.
PTSG installs sprinkler systems for both commercial and domestic buildings all over the UK. Sprinklers are one of the most popular and effective ways of combatting fires. To date, no one has died in a fire with a sprinkler installed in the household.
Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is delighted to welcome Stewart King to its Fire Solutions division as National Sales Manager – Kitchen Fire Suppression.
Stewart has 26 years of valuable fire industry experience. Before becoming a sales professional, he first worked as a firefighter, before subsequently working as a service engineer.
He has been involved with Ansul for 12 years. Ansul is the world’s leading kitchen fire suppression manufacturer operating within the Johnson Control Group of companies and is renowned for its excellent research and development and commitment to only retailing fully approved products. Stewart describes Ansul as the “Hoover” brand of kitchen fire suppression, as its global share of that market is around 80%.
In his work as a sales professional, Stewart has worked with a great many leading UK restaurant, pub and hotel chains, delivering maintenance contracts and major roll-out projects. He has also worked closely with many of the UK’s ventilation, extraction, kitchen design houses and food service equipment providers and has personally sought out and signed up some major UK institutions as Ansul brand-standard users.
One compelling fact is that 75% of all businesses that suffer a kitchen fire, without having the benefit of a kitchen fire suppression system, never re-open – or they close within 18 months.
