PTSG Water Treatment has successfully deployed remote temperature monitoring technology across more than 160 Change Grow Live sites nationwide – eliminating engineer visits, reducing costs and delivering continuous, real-time Legionella compliance.
Change Grow Live (CGL) is a national charity supporting people facing challenges including substance misuse, housing instability, domestic abuse and mental and physical wellbeing. Its services are entirely free and confidential.
PTSG Water Treatment began working with CGL in 2022. As the charity grew, so did the number of sites requiring water hygiene compliance support. Today, PTSG Water Treatment supports more than 160 CGL locations across the UK with remote temperature monitoring technology – providing continuous, real-time L8 oversight without the need for repeated engineer visits.
The Challenge
Managing Legionella and water hygiene across a dispersed, often low-occupancy estate created a compound of pressures that every site visit made worse. Outlets had to be run until reaching safe temperatures, wasting water. Gas heating to maintain compliant hot water temperatures added energy costs across every site. L8 testing at 160+ locations meant significant engineer travel time and fuel expenditure. And the cumulative carbon footprint of repeated visits was considerable. Beyond cost, site visits disrupted CGL’s frontline care services.
The Solution
Working collaboratively, PTSG Water Treatment and CGL identified remote temperature monitoring as the answer. Because Legionnaires’ disease is a genuine, sometimes fatal public health risk, compliance is non-negotiable. PTSG Water Treatment – a member of the Legionella Control Association and certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 – delivered a solution that meets every legal requirement while transforming how compliance is managed day to day.
Discreet sensors with a 7–10 year battery life are installed directly on pipework at each site. Every five seconds, those sensors transmit temperature data to a cloud connector, which forwards it via secure cellular networks to a live dashboard accessible on any device. PTSG Water Treatment’s team receives automatic alerts if an outlet hasn’t been used for seven or more days, or if temperatures fall outside safe parameters – meaning issues are identified and resolved before they become risks. No engineer needs to attend site. No water is wasted. No services are interrupted.
The Outcome
Remote temperature monitoring is now live across all 160+ CGL sites, delivering continuous L8 oversight from a single platform. Site visit costs have been substantially reduced, water and energy waste eliminated, and CGL’s operational teams no longer face compliance-related service disruptions. The carbon footprint of PTSG Water Treatment’s service delivery has been significantly cut. Most importantly, CGL now has full, audit-ready visibility of its compliance status across its entire estate – at any time, on any device.
“The remote monitoring system gives us real-time visibility of our compliance status across all our sites, while significantly reducing our operational costs.” – Change Grow Live
