This week marks 150 years since Alexander Graham Bell said nine words into a wire and changed everything: “Mr Watson, come here – I want to see you.”

The person on the other end heard him. That was enough.

A century and a half later, the phone call is still one of the most powerful tools in business. Not because of the technology. Because of the person who answers.

At PTSG’s head office in Castleford, that’s Jake and Caron.

Between them, they handle hundreds of calls a day – plus an info@ inbox that can hit 300 emails before lunch.

Every one of those interactions is someone’s first impression of PTSG.

They field lightning protection enquiries from church wardens, calls from facilities managers who’ve just failed a compliance inspection and need someone on site by end of day, alongside calls about services spanning five divisions and 170 specialisms.

Knowing where every call belongs – and making sure it gets there – is a skill in itself.

Bell proved that what matters isn’t the wire – it’s the voice at the end of it.

Caron and Jake prove that every single day.
