A technician from Pendrich Height Services, part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), has been recognised for his actions after helping a man in distress on the Edinburgh City Bypass.

Neil Wilson, an IRATA Level 3 Technician, was travelling home from Tynecastle Park, home of Heart of Midlothian FC – where he had been leading a team of four engineers painting the stadium’s floodlight towers – when he noticed a man standing on the hard shoulder of the 70mph road.

Recognising the danger, Neil pulled over, brought the individual to safety, and through calm communication established that he was experiencing a mental health crisis. He drove him to a safe location, contacted Police Scotland, and remained with him until officers arrived. Police later thanked Neil for his intervention, which may well have prevented a tragedy.

Mark Perfect, Managing Director of Pendrich, presented Neil with a voucher in recognition of his actions, praising his humility and quick thinking.

Neil’s intervention reflects PTSG’s strong commitment to mental health, which includes training over 80 qualified mental health first aiders across the Group. This investment ensures employees are equipped to support colleagues and others during times of crisis.

PTSG said Neil’s actions exemplify the values the Group strives to uphold – professionalism, compassion and a willingness to go above and beyond.
