Pendrich Height Services, part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd, has completed a project to shore up an industrial chimney stack standing 110 metres high.
Utililising temporary cradle access platforms, Pendrich’s specialists carried out extensive concrete repairs to the chimney windshield of this significant concrete chimney.
The team also painted the black band at the chimney top, known as the smokeband. The smokeband is crucial to the performance of the chimney as this area is subject to gas attack from the chimney’s down draft; the paint absorbs the emissions, disguises staining and protects the substrate from corrosion damage.
This project demonstrates that it is far more cost effective to paint and protect a chimney top, as opposed to dismantling and rebuilding it from scratch. It is good practice to always protect your chimney top!
