Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a project to deliver specialist electrical services at an award-winning surf resort in Scotland’s capital city.

This world-class facility will change the landscape of Scottish tourism and surfing, bringing an iconic sport to a new inland home. Surfers and non-surfers are all welcome, from first timers to developing Olympians of the future.

The team from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd was originally contracted to carry out the earthing design study for the site-wide 11kV substation HV Network. As the site had multiple substations, PTSG’s specialists spent a full day carrying out soil resistivity surveys at each substation location. As the actual design for this was slightly different to the usual substation design, it was necessary to ensure that the touch and step potential voltages were below 25V in line with IEC 61936-1. To help achieve this, specialists utilised the rebar within the cove (wave pool) itself, which mitigated any risk to people who are surfing should a earth fault event occur.

As a result of the success on the site-wide earthing system, PTSG’s team was recommended to the iDNO for this project to carry out the Earth Electrode System design at the 33/11kV Primary substation.

Once the Design had been approved, PTSG’s team installed the full site earth electrode system, which included the testing and commissioning, ultimately offering the whole turnkey solution for our client.
