Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed a project in which its engineers deliver specialist fire solutions for a large NHS Trust serving almost a million people in the Yorkshire area from over 100 sites.

This project saw engineers from PTSG’s Fire Solutions division undertake fire door inspections for approximately 2,000 doors across a large city hospital. The hospital operates 24/7 with a mix of critical care areas, wards, operating theatres, specialist units, administration offices, and public spaces. The project required careful planning to minimise disruption while ensuring full compliance with fire safety regulations.

The project presented a number of challenges including carrying out inspections around peak patient care hours, with priority given to non-clinical and non-patient areas during normal working hours. Work was performed in critical areas (e.g. operating theatres, high-dependency units) with inspections carried out at designated times to avoid disruption. PTSG’s engineers worked in tandem with hospital staff to ensure infection control measures are met.

PTSG’s team ensured full compliance and risk mitigation on this project, supplying a full audit trail of inspected fire doors, with clear recommendations for remediation. The hospital’s estates teams gained real-time access to inspection data, ensuring ongoing compliance with fire regulations. The phased inspection programme ensured hospital operations weren’t interrupted. Ultimately, the repairs-first approach identified doors that could be remediated rather than replaced, optimising budget allocation.
