Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), through its constituent company Neo, has successfully completed a significant programme of fire door replacements and fire stopping works at a Russell Group university in the North of England, delivered within a tightly constrained summer refurbishment window.

The works were carried out while student accommodation blocks were unoccupied, requiring meticulous planning and sequencing to ensure all activities were completed before the return of students. Neo’s teams operated alongside multiple other contractors delivering parallel refurbishment and compliance works, making coordination, communication, and programme control critical to success.

The university estate presented additional complexity, with many buildings dating from the 1960s and constructed using the CLASP system. These structures included asbestos-containing materials, high numbers of columns, and wind-bracing elements, necessitating detailed surveys, strict permit controls, and close integration with licensed asbestos contractors to maintain safe working practices.

A high volume of fire doors was installed across multiple blocks in a compressed timeframe, placing demands on logistics, labour planning, and supply chain resilience. Every door installation was completed by FIRAS- and BM Trada-certified teams and delivered in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions and third-party certification requirements, ensuring consistency and full compliance across the estate.

In parallel, Neo delivered extensive fire stopping works to protect compartmentation throughout accommodation and teaching buildings. These works involved sealing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and IT service penetrations through complex structural layouts, often requiring bespoke, tested solutions installed to exacting standards.

Digital quality assurance and reporting underpinned the programme, providing clear, auditable evidence of every fire door and fire stop installed. The result is a robust compliance record that supports the university’s ongoing commitment to fire safety and estate resilience.
