Visitors to last weekend’s British Airways Engineering Family Open Day at Heathrow Airport experienced a bird’s-eye view of aviation like never before, thanks to Pendrich Height Services (Pendrich) and its Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP).

Pendrich, a PTSG company with 55 years of working at height excellence, deployed their professional MEWP to give families an unforgettable aerial perspective of the aircraft hangar.

Hasnain Naveed, Regional Business Development Manager at Pendrich explained: “It was a fantastic event. We had people queuing up throughout the day to get lifted up in our MEWP for a unique view of the aeroplanes below. Even British Airways cabin crew were joining the queue.”

The event, aimed at sparking interest in STEM careers and aviation engineering among families, offered attendees a safe yet exhilarating opportunity to experience working at height. Held across 31 May, 1 and 2 June, it welcomed 8,702 British Airways colleagues, along with their friends and families. Highlights included iconic aircraft such as Concorde, a live 777, and the A320neo. In total, the event featured 55 stands and a range of live exhibits from both BA Engineering and the wider British Airways business, supported by over 140 team members and 60 volunteers. Additionally, 27 external suppliers and delivery partners contributed their own exhibits, backed by more than 100 staff.

The MEWP proved to be the perfect solution for the family-friendly STEM event, allowing visitors of all ages to safely experience working at height while getting an unprecedented view of the engineering marvels in the hangar. The elevated platform provided a safe, controlled environment where families could appreciate both the scale of the aircraft and the technical expertise required to maintain them.

Pendrich’s participation in the British Airways Open Day reinforces their longstanding relationship with British Airways and Heathrow Airport, where their height specialists have completed numerous inspection, repair and maintenance projects across the airport’s extensive facilities over the years.

Hasnain continued: “This event perfectly demonstrates how our expertise in working at height can inspire and educate. Seeing the excitement on people’s faces as they got that aerial view of the aircraft – it really showed how our industry can capture imaginations and potentially inspire the next generation of engineers and height specialists.”

As part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), Pendrich brings unparalleled expertise to complex height challenges across prestigious projects throughout the UK, including Blackpool Tower, Wembley Park and John Lewis on London’s Oxford Street.
