Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has completed inspection and testing works on the lightning protection system at the O2 Academy Brixton, one of London’s most iconic live music venues.
Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services recently carried out testing and inspection of the venue’s lightning protection infrastructure to ensure it remains compliant with relevant safety standards and continues to provide effective protection for the building, occupants and visitors.
Originally opened in 1929 as a cinema, the building has undergone several transformations, becoming a discotheque in 1972 before reopening as a concert hall in 1983. Today, the O2 Academy Brixton is owned by Academy Music Group (AMG) and is recognised as one of the capital’s leading performance venues, hosting major national and international artists.
The project forms part of PTSG’s ongoing work supporting high-profile and heritage venues with specialist electrical testing and lightning protection services, helping clients maintain safety, compliance and asset resilience.
Once a lightning protection system is installed, it must be professionally tested at least once a year to ensure it is capable of conducting a potential lightning strike to a safe earthing point. This ensures compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and BS EN 62305. This is an area of specialism for PTSG, whose electrical engineers have many years’ experience in all industry sectors.
