Collective Protection: Part of Safety Equipment Testing

Collective protection refers to anything that is put in place to offer protection to more than one person.  These safety devices can be installed once and then go on to protect countless people for as long as it’s in place. It is particularly effective in areas where regular maintenance access is required. This can include things such as guardrails, handrails (and any other form of protection from falls or trips around edges), scaffolding, hazard signage, air bags or safety nets etc.

Edge protection is vital in multi-storey buildings as trips or falls over edges can be nasty, especially if at height. Putting in place effective and reliable collective protection is essential to protect maintenance teams and others. It is also useful when installed around features such as sky lights and roof lights, to guard against people falling through the fragile materials they are made from, such as glass.
