Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) is currently engaged in a project at British Steel Scunthorpe, where its engineers are delivering specialist success solutions.

The iron and steel industry in Scunthorpe was established in the mid 19th century, following the discovery and exploitation of ironstone east of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. The town of Scunthorpe exists primarily due to the development of the iron ore and steel industry in the area, changing the character of the area from almost entirely rural to one of a large heavy industrial enterprise and town in a rural setting. As a consequence, most of the buildings in the town date to the late 19th or 20th century.

Engineers from PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd are using a cradle to access the brick chimney and install “Z” brackets to the restraining bands throughout the full height of the chimney. They are also painting the steel bands as they descend the chimney. The “Z” brackets were designed in-house by one of the Group’s mechanical engineers.

In 2021, PTSG completed a project at British Steel Scunthorpe during a two-week shutdown to perform a series of repairs to five different chimneys.
