PTSG gets a bird’s-eye view

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has been called in to carry out work to a Grade I-listed church in Doncaster.

All Saints Church, located in Owston, Doncaster, was originally built in 1180, with the church tower constructed around 100 years later. The Group’s Electrical Services engineers were contracted to carry out an upgrade and repairs to the system, which will ensure that the historic site and its visitors are protected from lightning strikes.

The usually straightforward work was complicated by a very special resident in the tower: a peregrine falcon! Engineers were required to delay work until the falcon had left the tower in order to fix the access points that would allow them to scale it and carry out the upgrade.

The Group is no stranger to obstacles of this nature. In 2016, lightning protection engineers completed work at the Cat Hill redevelopment in Stratford that contained a vital breeding ground for the protected great crested newt. The project required extra care and collaboration with all contractors to keep disruption to a minimum at the important site.

PTSG in the market for lightning protection

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has recently completed a lightning protection upgrade to Leeds’ Grade I-listed Leeming Building.

The Leeming building, originally built in 1904, forms part of the famous Leeds City Markets – the largest covered market in Europe. It was recently refurbished and reopened with modern office space spread over four floors.

Engineers from the Group’s Electrical Services division carried out a full service of the existing system, before installing new conductor tapes and surge protection devices to the building’s main incoming electrical supply.

As the Leeming Building’s façade is so iconic, great care had to be taken to ensure that the work was carried out carefully and to guarantee that the lightning protection system doesn’t detract from the building’s appearance. The building remained operational throughout PTSG’s work, and the team was required to be highly organised to ensure there was no disruption to the market or the office residents.

PTSG has a great deal of experience working at important historic sites. Last year the Group carried out inspection and testing at 37 Historic Scotland sites, including Stirling Castle, Glasgow Cathedral and Linlithgow Palace.

PTSG handed RoSPA Gold Medal Award for health and safety practices

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has been handed a prestigious award in recognition of its practices and achievements in helping its staff get home safely at the end of each working day.

The Group has achieved a Gold Medal (7 consecutive Golds) in the internationally-renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK.

They will be presented with the award during a ceremony at Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Paul Teasdale, Chief Executive at PTSG, said: “At PTSG, safety is always our primary concern. Before we carry out any work, we must ensure what we do is safe for our people, our clients and the general public.

“Much of what we do in our daily work is considered high-risk, with works taking place at heights or in hazardous environments, and therefore an extremely rigorous approach to health and safety is required.

“This accolade is another sign of the good work we are doing here at PTSG and comes as a just reward for our constant investment and dedication to working to the highest health and safety standards possible.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.”

The majority of awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals, president’s awards, orders of distinction and the Patron’s Award are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.

Competitive awards go to the best entries in 24 industry sectors including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing and education.

There are specialist awards for health at work, environmental management and fleet safety, and excellence trophies for the best international, new entry, workforce involvement and organisation operating or based in Scotland. RoSPA’s top accolade is the Sir George Earle Trophy.

Headline sponsor of the RoSPA Awards 2018 is NEBOSH – the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health – for the 13th consecutive year.

With around 400 industry professionals attending, it’s a unique opportunity for hospitality and networking. Boarding the Dixie Queen – a large replica 19th Century paddle steamer – at Butler’s Wharf Pier, guests will sail east past the Tower of London and under Tower Bridge. They will go on past Canary Wharf and historic Greenwich, round the O2 Peninsula and through the Thames Barrier, rounding off the night at the Tower Millennium Pier (North of the River Thames).

PTSG is a familiar name in the facilities management industry, pledging its support to a number of organisations including the British Industry of Facilities Management (BIFM) and the Stoddart Review. The Group’s sponsorship of the Annual Summer River Boat Party will strengthen its profile in the capital, where three of its 17 UK offices are based, and where it has undertaken high-profile projects including cradle installations on The Cheesegrater and The Gherkin.

PTSG lends a hand to HM Land Registry

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has secured an order for two of its specialist divisions to carry out works at HM Land Registry sites across the UK.

The Group’s highly professional engineers will attend all HM Land Registry sites across the country to provide lightning protection and fall arrest testing services. These tests play an important role in ensuring that these sites are safe and compliant for building users and facilities management teams.

HM Land Registry is a UK Government department that registers the ownership of property. Its head office operates from Trafalgar House in Croydon, with an additional 13 offices located throughout the UK.

PTSG carries out work for a number of Government departments, and recently secured a contract to provide electrical services at Ministry of Justice sites across the country.

PTSG wins electrical services contract at Burnley General Hospital

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has landed a contract to provide electrical testing services at Burnley General Hospital.

Burnley General Hospital in Lancashire is operated by the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and was first established as an infirmary for the local workhouse in 1876. The hospital has since been greatly modernised, most recently with the opening of a £32m state-of-the-art Women and Newborn Centre in 2006.

A skilled team from the Group’s electrical services division will carry out fixed wire testing at the hospital, making sure that the electrics throughout the facility are 100% safe for all staff, patients or visitors.

This is just one of the many hospitals for which PTSG has carried out work, with experience in providing several specialist services for hospitals across the country. The Group has twice been shortlisted in the PFM awards’ Partners in Healthcare category, highlighting its commitment to carefully planning and timing works at healthcare facilities, reducing any disruption to a minimum.

PTSG celebrates World FM Day

World FM Day celebrates the importance of facilities management (FM) to the success of businesses across the world. PTSG supports FM companies across the world with its provision of niche specialist services, and is proud to be part of an industry which employs more than 25 million people worldwide and is worth more than $1.1 trillion annually.

The theme of this year’s World FM Day is ‘Enabling Positive Experiences’, and here we focus on how PTSG’s services play an integral role in enabling positive customer, client and employee experiences across a wide range of sectors.

The company is well known for its commitment to safety, and its high-quality safety testing services play a key role in allowing its clients’ employees to have positive experiences at work.

The Group’s comprehensive tests and certificates on a wide range of access and safety equipment means that operatives working at height with this equipment are as safe as possible, allowing them to carry out their work with confidence, more efficiently and to a higher standard.

PTSG’s strong customer focus ensures its clients always have positive experiences. The Group provides a vast range of specialist services in access and safety, electrical services, specialist building access and fire solutions. Its bundled service provision allows FM companies to procure any combination of these high-quality niche services from just one provider.

By placing its customers at the heart of its offering, PTSG enables positive experiences for its clients by making things simpler and more cost-effective than using multiple suppliers.

PTSG’s Building Access Specialists’ high-level cleaning division offers a great example of how the company enables positive experiences for its clients’ customers.

Much of the team’s work is carried out on buildings that other companies find it impossible to work on. St Paul’s City Lofts, Sheffield’s tallest building, was notoriously difficult to clean, with past attempts seeing no tangible results.

The Group’s expert team repurposed the building’s BMU and installed new access points, allowing them to carry out the building’s first full clean in years, giving residents a clear view over the city, and a home they could be proud of.

Facilities management is an unsung hero in many UK businesses, but it clearly plays a vital role in making the lives of employees, customers and clients safer and happier, a role that PTSG is delighted to play a part in.

PTSG cooking with gas for Centrica

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has secured a multi-disciplinary contract with the British gas and electricity supplier Centrica.

Multi-disciplinary teams from PTSG will be deployed across the UK to carry out lightning protection and fall arrest testing, providing the vital certificates that demonstrate that Centrica sites are safe and compliant for staff and visitors.

Centrica is the largest supplier of gas to domestic customers in the UK and one of the country’s largest electricity suppliers. This nationwide contract will see PTSG operatives travelling to 115 Centrica sites to provide these vital specialist services.

PTSG holds multidisciplinary contracts like this one with hundreds of customers across the UK, helping them avoid the difficulty of procuring a variety of niche specialist services from different providers. This makes customers’ lives easier, whilst allowing PTSG to ensure it is always providing a cost-effective and high-quality service.

The £41.4m building project will benefit local pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) who are unable to attend mainstream schools. The three sites will welcome new pupils from September 2018.

PTSG delivers contract for Mailbox Birmingham

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has landed a significant Access and Safety contract at Mailbox Birmingham, the city’s premier shopping and lifestyle destination.

The Group’s talented Access and Safety engineers will attend the site to carry out rigorous tests to its fall arrest systems and cradles, ensuring that any operative carrying out work at height at the centre in future is safe and secure.

The Mailbox is one of Europe’s largest mixed-use buildings, featuring retail, leisure, office and residential space in one complex. The building was originally home to the Royal Mail’s sorting office for Birmingham, before its conversion into a luxury shopping centre in 1998. The site is now home to a number of high-profile designer stores, as well as serving as the base for BBC Birmingham.

PTSG is well known for its excellence in working at height. The company was recently featured in PFM magazine for its commitment to raising health and safety standards across the facilities management industry by always going above and beyond the standards required for compliance. This approach has resulted in a number of awards, including two RoSPA Gold Medals and seven consecutive International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council.
