Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) supports the Scottish government’s public consultation focused on the safety of people living in high-rise flats – announced yesterday.

The consultation comes as part of the Scottish government’s response to the Grenfell Tower fire in London in 2017. It calls for views on how to simplify the guidance available to everyone who lives in high-rise flats or is responsible for fire safety in high-rise flats.

The consultation also seeks views on proposals for a public information campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving rubbish or unwanted items in common areas within high-rises.

PTSG provides a range of specialist services that keep buildings and users safe. PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd is one of the company’s largest divisions.

The Grenfell Tower tragedy of 2017 prompted a call for more stringent fire safety measures in buildings over a certain size – a call which was quickly answered by a number of councils in London alone, with more following throughout the UK.

Fire prevention and suppression systems are vital for the safety of those who live in and use buildings over a certain size. Sprinklers are proven to suppress fires before they become uncontrollable and to date, no one has died in a household fire where a sprinkler system was fitted. However, the public consultation by the Scottish government calls for simplifying the guidance for residents of high-rise buildings as well as public information on the dangers within such buildings – measures which could help to prevent fires occurring in the first place. This, in combination with the kind of fire solutions delivered by PTSG, could reduce or ideally eliminate the danger of fire in high-rise buildings.
