PTSG goes sky-high for O-I

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG)’s Steeplejack team has carried out repairs to a huge chimney structure for O-I Manufacturing (O-I), the world’s leading glass container manufacturer.

Steeplejack engineers from PTSG attended the structure at O-I’s Alloa-based bottle manufacturing site to restore it to its existing profile and allow for safe use. The structure consists of a 100-metre concrete chimney, which had developed lamination to such a degree that the stack had become unsafe and could potentially cause site destruction or personal injury to site personnel.

PTSG’s steeplejack engineers attended to make the structure safe and carry out repairs to the external windshield. Steeplejack and rope access techniques were used to scale this challenging structure, which provided a safe and economical alternative to scaffolding.

O-I has more than a century of experience in crafting glass packaging for many of the world’s best-known food and beverage brands. The company provides high-quality glass packing for a range of products, including beer, wine, spirits, food, non-alcoholic beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

PTSG’s expert steeplejack team provides inspection surveys, maintenance, demolition, dismantling and other services to a range of high structures such as church steeples and industrial chimney stacks as well as commercial and industrial buildings. The group is committed to the highest standards of health and safety in all aspects of working at height, and was recently awarded the Gold Medal from RoSPA in recognition of its achievements.

PTSG keeps roofing contractor covered with new lightning protection installation

PTSG’s electrical services division provided a team of specialist lightning protection engineers to install two DAT Controller Plus range ESE air terminal systems at Avonside Group’s site in Chesterfield. ESE devices are becoming popular alternatives for, and adjuncts to, conventional lightning protection systems due to their ability to be integrated seamlessly and discreetly into building structures.

PTSG is the perfect match for BGL Group

Premier Technical Services Group PLC (PTSG) has completed the installation of early streamer emission (ESE) lightning protection devices at sites for financial services provider BGL Group.

BGL Group operates in the UK and France and is organised into two divisions: Price Comparison and Insurance Distribution and Outsourcing (IDO). It has developed and launched several well-known brands, including, and French insurance comparison site

Engineers from PTSG’s electrical services division attended BGL’s offices in Peterborough and the North-East to install a total of five ESE devices. ESE devices are powered by storing energy from the naturally occurring ambient electrical field, which builds up considerably when a storm approaches. Just before a lightning strike occurs the stored energy is released in the form of an ionization at the tip of the air terminal. Should a lightning strike occur it would be attracted to the streamer provided by the device and would then be conducted safely to earth by the down conductors.

As well as lightning protection installation and maintenance, PTSG’s electrical services division also offers a variety of other niche specialist services, including PAT, fixed wire and emergency lighting testing, wet and dry riser installation and maintenance, and fire alarm testing and maintenance.

Since we were formed, we have always strived to implement best practice in our workplace health and safety. We are the only company of our kind to employ a full-time Health, Safety and Environment team.

“I am delighted that we have been awarded a Gold Medal by RoSPA; it is testament to all the hard work our people put in day in day out and I’d like to thank them all for their commitment to and focus on safety.
